BIO
Lydia Balash (b. 1996) is a contemporary abstract artist based in Beaufort, SC. Her practice centers on emotional resonance—drawing from life, loved ones, and nature. She creates minimal, tactile compositions that balance expressive depth with spatial elegance, making her work a natural complement to refined interiors and intentional design.
STATEMENT
“My process is slow and intuitive, letting each layer emerge from lived experience. I often begin with a memory or moment—something that left a lasting impression. I sit with it, let it unfold, then mix pigments to reflect its feeling. Once the colors and textures feel true, I stretch a canvas and begin. Over time, the surface evolves—marks accumulate, materials settle, and emotion begins to surface.
Each painting carries the time it took to make it—layered, considered, and evolving. My hope is that those who live with the work feel that presence and let it become part of their own rhythm.”
